I Launched My Website and No Customers Are Coming. What Am I Doing Wrong?
Diagnose whether you have a traffic problem, a conversion problem, or a positioning problem — three different fixes for three different issues.
Three months ago you launched your site. You waited. The phone didn't ring. Forms didn't come. A few friends said "looks great, mate" and that was it.
This isn't one problem. It's at least one of three. Let's figure out which.
Measure first: traffic problem or conversion problem?
Two different metrics:
- Traffic — how many people saw the site?
- Conversion — what fraction took action (form, call, purchase)?
You can sort this in 5 minutes. If you don't have analytics, set it up now (analytics.google.com), drop the snippet in your <head>, give it a week. Then check:
- Under 100 monthly visitors = traffic problem
- 1,000+ monthly visitors but no forms/calls = conversion problem
- Traffic and forms come, but always end at "what do you charge?" with no follow-up = positioning problem (wrong audience)
These need different fixes.
No traffic? Google doesn't know you exist
Launching a site doesn't make Google find it. You need to do this:
- Google Search Console (search.google.com/search-console) — sign up
- Verify ownership (HTML file or DNS record)
- Submit your sitemap.xml — your pages get indexed within a week
- Type "site:yourdomain.com" in Google to see how many pages are indexed
After that, three paths to traffic:
SEO (slow, durable): Pick the keywords you want to rank for ("Berlin web design agency"). Write content targeting them, optimize titles and meta descriptions. Takes 3-12 months.
Google Ads (fast, expensive): Pay per click. "Web design Berlin" runs €3-8/click. €300-2,000/month gets you started.
Social / direct outreach: LinkedIn, Instagram, mailing your network.
Traffic but no conversion? Something on the site is broken
If 1,000 visitors come per month and zero fill the form, the site is the issue. Most likely one of these:
1. It's not clear what you do. If the homepage hero says "We bring visions to life with creative solutions," nobody knows what you sell. Be specific: "Web design and development for boutique hotels — projects shipped in 4 weeks." That sentence sells.
2. Phone and form are buried. No CTA above the fold? No phone number visible? Visitors give up. Phone numbers in the header convert 3x better than tucked-away "contact" pages.
3. Mobile is broken. 70% of traffic is mobile. Open the site on your phone and try to find the contact form. Can't do it in 10 seconds? Customers can't either.
4. The site is slow. A 3-second load time loses 50% of visitors. PageSpeed score under 50? Fix that first.
5. No trust signals. No testimonials, no past work, no real photos. Visitors ask "who is this?" Add: phone, address, social handles, customer logos, recent work.
Wrong customers coming in?
Subtle one. Forms come in, but they're all "what's the price?" with no follow-through. Or the inquiries are too small to be worth your time. Cause: the site's tone speaks to the wrong audience.
Fix it by:
- Stating a price floor on the site. "Projects start at €5,000." One line. Anyone too small bounces, doesn't fill the form.
- Showing customer types. A "clients we work with" section with brand logos signals scale.
- Tightening the CTA. "Contact us" attracts everyone. "Book a 30-minute discovery call" attracts qualified buyers — the friction self-selects.
Five things you can do today
- Set up Google Analytics — stop guessing
- Rewrite the homepage hero so it explains what you do in 5 seconds
- Add your phone number to the header on every page
- Run PageSpeed Insights, fix anything below 50
- Add 3 client testimonials (real names, real companies)
